Process
How a trade proceeds.
Enquiry in writing.
Product, quantity, delivery term, discharge range, target laycan and a named receiver.
Counterparty file.
KYC documents are exchanged in both directions. Counterparties are screened before terms are discussed; vessels and cargo provenance are screened at nomination.
Terms.
Quality, quantity tolerance, price reference, laycan and payment instrument are agreed and recorded.
Contract and inspection.
Quantity and quality are determined at the load port by an agreed independent inspector, SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas or equivalent, with findings binding both sides.
Performance.
Documents are presented as the contract requires, and the transaction file is retained.
Counterparties
Verification before commercial terms.
New counterparties provide incorporation papers, ownership through to natural persons, authority to contract and, at the instrument stage, evidence of banking arrangements in the counterparty’s own name. Ophir Gate provides the equivalent corporate information.
Pre-contract banking instruments do not replace a counterparty file. Verification and contractual terms come first; instruments follow a signed contract. Enquiries are expected from the buyer or seller rather than a multi-intermediary chain.
